Chalcedony is a silicon dioxide, cryptocrystalline variety of Quartz. It forms from watery silica gels at relatively low temperatures and is found all over the world. Chalcedony ranges in colour from white to grey, greyish-blue, or brown ranging from pale to nearly black and has a waxy lustre, and may be semitransparent or translucent. Varieties of Chalcedony include Agate, Carnelian, Aventurine, Jasper, Onyx, Bloodstone, Tiger Eye, Sardonyx and Chrysoprase. Many Native American tribes use it for sacred ceremonies and named it a “stone of brotherhood” because it brings energies of loving kindness and goodwill to all.
